Clear sighted and practical

As Director of Career Services for EMBA programs at the Rotman School, Allison Quennell sees herself as a source of clear-sighted, practical advice: “A lot of students do an EMBA because they want additional challenges. Once they’ve finished, they’re anxious to move ahead. It’s a matter of ensuring that they’re going in the right direction.

Naturally, I’m supportive. But the great thing is that, as a third-party not emotionally invested in a graduate’s future, I’m also objective. I’m a great person to bounce ideas off.” Allison came to the Rotman School after a career in outplacement and executive search services. She offers Omnium participants the benefits of extensive senior-level experience and a long list of contacts based on work with many industries in North America and Europe.

Interculturally aware

“Since we maintain excellent relationships with globally acting companies and international organizations, including financial institutions, consulting companies and law firms, we can provide Omnium graduates access to our network. In some cases, I, personally, am in a position to advise them on certain industries, sectors or trends in the Swiss, German and European labour market. Although we don’t do actual placement, I can even arrange for them to speak to people within the companies. This really helps a lot.” Dr. Thorsten Thiel, Director of the Career Services Centre at the University of St. Gallen (CSC-HSG), came to his post after completing post-graduate studies in Culture and Communications at universities in Europe and the USA. He has also done work providing career services and establishing a placement program at a corporate university run by a major international law firm. Thorsten’s background gives him an abiding interest in intercultural communications and a broad perspective on the jobs scene in European consulting, law and finance.

He invites enquiries from any self-financed Omnium participants.
